About Us
Boston Piezo-Optics Inc. is located in Bellingham, MA. We have 10,000 square feet of well equipped manufacturing and office space, and a very experienced sales and production staff...

Piezoelectric Components
Boston Piezo-Optics offers a wide variety of piezoelectric components including transducer crystals, spherical focusing transducer crystals, acoustic rods, piezoceramic tubes, blood flow crystals, alumina wear plates, quartz and sapphire windows and substrates, and SAW substrates made from quartz and lithium niobate.

Intro to Transducer Crystals
An introduction to piezoelectric transducer crystals, and suggested reading.

Transducer Crystals
Boston Piezo-Optics specializes in the supply of custom and OEM specified piezoelectric transducer crystals.

Triple-Mode Lithium Niobate
10 degree rotated Y-cut lithium niobate can be used to simultaneously generate both longitudinal and shear waves.

Piezoceramic Tubes
Boston Piezo-Optics manufactures piezoceramic tubes from select, void free, high quality, homogeneous PZT billet material. Our exclusive machining process insures meeting and exceeding the most stringent mechanical and acoustic specifications. Vibration modes are radial, compressional and shear.

Static Displacement Calculator
Use our Static Displacement Calculator to obtain the theoretical motion for any piezoceramic tube configuration.

Spherical Focusing
Boston Piezo-Optics produces spherical focusing transducer crystals for clinical, laboratory, and field ultrasonography. These crystals are used in applications that require an acoustic focal point that represents a position of peak acoustic intensity. Typical applications include flow and level sensing, air and high power acoustic applications, non-destructive testing, materials evaluation, medical diagnostic analyses and measurements, and therapeutic treatments.

Blood Flow Crystals
We pioneered the production of crystals for investigators who build their own blood flow probes for use with laboratory animals. These crystals are not intended for use on human subjects. The most common configuration is a 1 mm diameter at 20 MHz. These crystals are low cost and are kept in stock for fast delivery.

Alumina Wear Plates
Boston Piezo-Optics offers a wide range of sizes and thicknesses in wear plates used to protect the crystals of transducer assemblies from corrosion, sliding abrasion, or high temperatures. All wear plates are manufactured to specification.

Acoustic Rods
Acoustic rods or Buffer rods are used in ultrasonic technology experiments for high temperature work, and in the investigation of small samples. Other common applications are reference standards, coupling devices and delay lines.

Ultrasonic Properties

The Ultrasonic Transducer
The ultrasonic transducer is an extremely important and critical part of any ultrasonic test. Selection of the proper transducer for a particular application is most important. Factors including instrument conditions and settings, material properties, and coupling conditions will also impact test results. Transducers can be selected for sensitivity or resolution.

SAW Substrates
Boston Piezo-Optics has been manufacturing surface acoustic wave substrates for over thirty years. SAW devices continue to be of interest because of their superior functional characteristics in delay lines, filters, and other UHF, VHF and microwave devices. We possess considerable experience in the manufacture of ST-cut, AT-cut, and any single or doubly rotated Y-cut crystal quartz wafers or substrates. We can also provide Lithium niobate substrates in rotations such as Y-Z or 128° rotated Y-cut.

Optical Components
Our optical fabrication expertise includes critical visual inspection, x-ray orientation of one or more planes, high precision chemical as well as mechanical polishing, and sizing to even the toughest specifications. Our unique pin-lapping equipment and expertise allow us to provide optical components to the most demanding flatness and surface finish requirements.

Crystal Quartz Windows
BPO supplies optical quality cultured quartz windows and blanks. Z-oriented components are available up to 3.000" in diameter. Very few materials match the useful transmission range and physical properties of optical quality cultured quartz. This material is reproducible, available and affordable.

IVS* Sapphire Windows
Boston Piezo-Optics offers IVS* Sapphire Windows (*Interferometrically Verified Sapphire)
